You will feel a small poke when the needle goes in, but it should not hurt. At some acupuncture points, you may feel a mild ache. 

Acupuncture needles are very thin, about the size of a human hair. It is  thinner, smaller, and not hollow as compared to needles used for blood draws and immunizations. Different sizes of needles are used depending on what acupuncture points are chosen. 

Some side effects (albeit uncommon) that you may have are redness, bruising, minor bleeding, or swelling. 

Cosmetic Acupuncture is a non-surgical method of reducing the signs of the aging process. Based on the differentiated diagnoses of Oriental Medicine, the whole body looks and feels younger by addressing the physical, mental and emotional patterns that cause disease and contribute to the aging process.

Cosmetic services are not covered by your insurance. 

For medical services, we accept most commercial PPO insurances (Anthem, Cigna, Aetna, Blue Shield, Healthnet, United Health) and Medicare. We are always adding new insurances. We will try our best to bill insurance for your care. However, you may still be subjected to your insurance co-pay, co-insurance, and deductibles.

Cosmetic services unfortunately are not covered by your insurance.

If you would like to utilize your insurance for your care for our medical services, please contact us at least 1 day prior to your appointment. We will verify your insurance coverage and let you know if we are in network with your plan. 

While Dr. Isabella Lai has significant training with complementary and alternative treatments, she does not provide herbal medicine consultations. She can discuss risks/benefits of certain treatments. Dr. Lai may recommend simple, evidence-based vitamin supplements; however, this is a rare occurrence. Dr. Lai would like to help patients limit the number of products that they put in their body.

We do not sell herbal products in our clinic.

Patients should not get cosmetic acupuncture if they have a history of:

• Hemophilia
• Uncontrolled High Blood Pressure
• Severe Migraines within the last 3 months
• Pregnant 

The effects of Facial Acupuncture Rejuvenation are not confined to the face. Each acupuncture treatment is individualized. Acupuncture points are chosen based on an individualized differential diagnosis. A diagnosis is reached by examining constitutional health issues and any symptoms you may be having. If you have other complaints such as digestive problems, acute or chronic pain, stress, insomnia, fatigue etc., these symptoms will be addressed in the session and specific points chosen accordingly. Thus, the treatment is an overall balance of your health as well as your appearance. Beauty from within. The wrinkles disappear and your health improves at the same time!

Throughout the course of treatment, other physical symptoms you may be experiencing will also improve, even if we don’t actively address them. Treatments can improve hormonal balance; delay the graying of hair and hair loss associated with aging. You may notice you have a better quality of sleep and increased energy. It will improve your digestion and metabolism and strengthen your immune system. You can also address and treat any chronic or recurring pain.

The whole visit takes about 1 hour. We usually say carve out at least 1.5 hours as the initial intake and treatment may take a little bit more time.
